Of food insecurity and floods in Pakistan

Agriculture contributes 23% to the GDP of Pakistan.

Almost half of the country’s workforce lives on agriculture.

The monstrous monsoon and floods have had devastating effects leaving Sindh and Balochistan worse off.

21 million acres of crops are under water.

90% crops including cash crops like rice and cotton have been wiped out.

Fruits and vegetables have been damaged.

Livestock has perished.

The losses amount to over 500 million US dollars.

Food insecurity shall rise.

Famines are feared.

if left alone, achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals on eradicating hunger and poverty shall become a distant dream.

The global community together with people and the Government of Pakistan must come forward for immediate response and rehabilitation in these testing times.

“Agriculture is not farming, it is feeding.”

It is Pakistan today, tomorrow it could be you. Act now.
